How We Got Started

“One of our first assignments while earning my Early Childhood degree was to create a business plan for childcare management. We were instructed to choose a name and location. I immediately pictured the childcare center where I attended from 1979 to 1984 and made such beautiful memories—Busy Bee Childcare in Renton. I added this as my dream location.

As for the name, I reflected on my experience of Busy Bee. Every morning, while waiting for the center to open, I'd curl up in the backseat of the car as Dad pointed out constellations and shooting stars to pass the time. It dawned on me that "Shooting Star Preschool and Childcare" would be the perfect name.

I became passionate about this assignment and began sharing it with family and friends. After graduation, we contacted the current owner of the Busy Bee building, and within six months, we purchased it from her. With my mom's support and encouragement, the dream of Shooting Star Preschool and Childcare became a reality, and we officially opened our doors on June 5th, 2005.”
